Women's health
Women's health appointments cover cycle and menopause concerns, contraception discussions, pregnancy-related questions and routine screening conversations. Examinations are only carried out with explanation and consent, and you may ask for a chaperone at any point.

What this covers
- Menstrual, hormonal and menopause-related concerns
- Contraception discussion and review
- Pregnancy-related questions and onward referral
- Screening conversations appropriate to age and history
- General health concerns raised in the same appointment
Preparing for the appointment
- 01
Track dates where relevant
Cycle dates, the timing of symptoms or the date of a last screening test make the consultation considerably more precise.
- 02
You can ask for a chaperone
A chaperone can be present for any examination. Asking does not need a reason and does not change your care.
- 03
Raise the difficult thing first
If there is a concern you find hard to bring up, saying it at the start means it is not squeezed into the final minute.
General information, not advice
This page describes how appointments in this area of care usually work. It is general information and cannot take account of your own history, so it is not a substitute for an individual consultation. If symptoms are severe or worsening quickly, seek urgent care; in an emergency, call your local emergency number.
